During March 4 – 13, 2016 fourteen students and two advisors, the Chaplain Diane Mowrey and Dr. Maggie Commins, Associate Professor of Political Science, and Mr. Joey Haynes, Chapel Seminary Intern, will be making a mission trip to Guatemala. The purposes for the trip are threefold: to strengthen our own faith in God and deepen our spirituality; to learn more about the Guatemalan people and the political, economic, social, and religious reality of their lives; and to offer our assistance on a project that a local community has already defined.
Eighteen groups of Queens students made similar mission trips (1993, 2000-2016), and everyone involved had his or her faith deepened and their commitment to God and the larger church strengthened. We will be working with CEDEPCA, a sponsoring group in Guatemala, who will provide us with a specific mission project. The project is only one part of our mission trip; the other days will be spent in educational sessions, meeting with various churches, and visiting non-profit organizations and human rights groups. We will also visit the Lake Atitlan area.

Everyone involved in the mission trip will be raising his or her own funds, and we rely on people’s generosity. All money raised by individuals goes into a common pot to help the group as a whole make its budget.
